Trying iPods

Trying Stop Motion

Making an iMovie

Showing each other

Today the District iPods arrived at our school.  We were excited to try them out and see what we could do with them.  We created imovies, read stories, used the camera, recorded our voices and tried the different games.  We have been using iPads in our classroom but we enjoyed having the opportunity to see what iPods can do.  Do you use iPods in your classroom?  What is your favourite app to use on the iPod?

Parking Lot Subtraction

Today Ms. Leech thought that we should try to make subtraction stories using cars.  Luckily we had enough cars so that we could all do the activity at the same time.  We put the cars into their parking spots and then rolled the dice.  Then we took that number of cars out of their spots.  We had a great time driving the cars in and out of their spots as well as writing the corresponding subtraction sentences.

Writing Stories using the app Scribble Press

We have been reading the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems.  We love Mo Willem's books.  Today we tried to write our own stories using the app Scribble Press.  We had a great time creating our own stories.  We were all very focussed during this writing time.  Hopefully will finish our stories next week.

Math and Literature

On Thursday we read the book Spaghetti and Meatballs by Marilyn Burns.  After we were finished reading we got out the blocks, tiles, geometric shapes and counters and tried to solve the problem of how to fit 32 people into tables for spaghetti dinner.  We worked with a small group on building the groups.  Most of us first tried 8 tables of 4.   How would you arrange the tables to fit 32 people for dinner?

Four tables of 8.

One table of 32

Magnets

Will a magnet stick to the screw on the bench?
Will a magnet stick to the button on my dress?

Will a magnet stick to the garbage can?

Some of our wonders.

Will a magnet stick to the white board?

How much will a magnet hold at one time?
This week we wondered about Magnets.  We had a great time coming up with our wonders and then trying to answer them.

We love learning about magnets.  We will continue to explore and learn more about them.

Grouse Mountain

We have been missing the snow. Yesterday it tried to snow a little but not enough to build a snowman with so today we got up early and went off to the mountain. We arrived at school at 8:00 and then we took the long school bus ride to Grouse. We had a great day on the mountain. There was so much snow that we had trouble walking. We had a great tour guide, Roman, to help get us to our different spots. First we went to the Chalet, then the Hiwus Feasthouse, then the Alpine Cabin, then a sleigh ride, then playing in the snow and then skating on the outdoor rink. We loved riding the Gondola up and down the mountain. Thank you to all the parents who came to help today.
