Easter Egg Dying

On Thursday we decorated hard boiled eggs using crayons. Then we dipped the eggs in food colouring. It is always magical watching the eggs change colour. We learned that eggs are fragile and they crack when dropped or hit the desk. We ended up with some egg on the carpet. Oh well. It was worth it to see the excitement and enjoyment that the students had dying the eggs.  After Spring Break, we will do wonder experiments with eggs so there may be more egg mess to clean up.  What do you wonder about eggs?

Using crayon to decorate my egg!

Will pencil crayon work to colour the egg?

Using plastic eggs to protect the eggs while I wait to colour them.

Dipping the eggs into food colouring.  Some of us kept dying our eggs to see what colours they would change to.  We used white eggs and some brown eggs.

Colour Eperiments

After egg dying one of the students wanted to mix colours together to make new colours. Some other students joined in and they started mixing and making different colours. They had a great time making green and purple.

She told us that she got the idea of over and under the snow she was on a flied trip. And she told us that you can make a story any time any were. She told us that she puts her ideas on her note book.
I liked the visit with Kate Messner.

Preparing for our Skype with author Kate Messner

Tomorrow we will have a Skype visit with author Kate Messner. We all thought of questions to ask her. We then wrote our questions down on sentence strips.

If you had a chance to meet an author what would you ask him/her?

Buddies

Yesterday morning we spent time with our buddy class. Twice a month we do activities with our buddies. Yesterday we built animals using the cuisenaire rods. We then took pictures of our animals with the iPads and created stories about our animals. We had a great time creating the animals and the background scenes using the cuisenaire rods. When we were finished creating our stories we shared them using the Smartboard, laptop and airplay. We enjoyed listening to our classmates read their stories.

Cuisenaire Rods

We have been using the cuisenaire rods to make equations for the numbers 10 and 20.
