Boat Races

In Science we have been learning about Force and Motion.  This week we brought in our own supplies and used those supplies to create a boat.  Some of us used cardboard and some of us used styrofoam.  Each boat was unique and very creative.  It was great seeing all of the different boats.  Today, the sun came out so we headed outside to race our boats.  As we headed outside there were questions.

How are we going to get our boats to move?
How many races can we do?
Will our boats sink?

In the morning, Ms. Leech, had blown up a kiddie pool and some grade 7's along with another teacher had helped fill the pool up with water.
Water and boats made our Friday afternoon great!

The Best Part of Me

Today Ms. Leech read the story The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald. Then we took pictures of our favourite body parts and wrote about why we chose those parts.  Some of us chose to do all the writing on our blogs and some of us chose to use the apps Scribble Press or Skitch  first and then upload our finished work to our blog.  Here are some of our favourite body parts. The rest are on our individual blogs.

Does it Roll or Slide?

Today we built our own ramps and tried different objects to see if they would roll or slide. We found out that some objects roll and slide depending on which side we used. For example, a cup can roll and slide.

Subtraction Stories

Today we worked on writing our own subtraction word problems and then we had our classmates solve them. We had a great time writing stories and then having our friends solve them.

Force and Motion

Today we started to learn about Force and Motion.  Ms. Leech gave us each a wooden block and gave us the task of finding different ways to move the block. Then we had to record our favourite way on our blog. She gave us a bucket of materials to experiment with such as tape, straws, sticks, elastics, tongs, and paper. She then gave us an iPad to record our learning on. We all had very different ideas how to move the block. We used rulers, we dropped it, we twisted it on a stick, we made a parachute for it.  We then used the iPads to record our learning. Some of us videotaped the blocks in motion, and some of us used the apps Draw and Tell and Skitch. We then uploaded our work to our blogs.
Have you tried moving a block before? What is your favourite way?
